Once upon a time, there was a boy with a wicked tongue. Before he was a cruel prince or a wicked king, he was a faerie child with a heart of stone. Number one New York Times best-selling author Holly Black reveals a deeper look into the dramatic life of Elfhame's enigmatic high king, Cardan. By: Holly Black , and others.
Seth never expected he would want to settle down with anyone - but that was before Aislinn. She is everything he'd ever dreamed of, and he wants to be with her forever. Forever takes on new meaning, though, when your girlfriend is an immortal faery queen. Aislinn never expected to rule the very creatures who'd always terrified her - but that was before Keenan. He stole her mortality to make her a monarch, and now she faces challenges and enticements beyond any she'd ever imagined.
In Melissa Marr's third mesmerizing tale of Faerie, Seth and Aislinn struggle to stay true to themselves and each other in a milieu of shadowy rules and shifting allegiances, where old friends become new enemies and one wrong move could plunge the Earth into chaos. I bought Fragile Eternity expecting the return of Aslinn to be entertaining, or at least a book that would bring the series forward. All I read was the constant complaining Aslinn who cries for months and a Seth who is weak and tempermental and who seems so uncaring while in Farier, even once he learned the difference in time he still expected her to understand without asking anyone to ask her to just wait for him and he will explain when his time is done..
Unfortunately it doesn't even keep the series going, except creating more problems and burning more bridges. I have listened to the first 2 books in the series mostly enjoying both of them. The narrators could have both been better, but the plot kept me listening to them.
I liked the reader much better when he read the last book. That leads me to believe it is merely the book that is bad. I have had it in my library for the last 2 months and have only been able to stand about half of it. I had to write a review for this to spare others the regret. Even if you enjoyed the first two books like I did you will probably find this one a lost cause. I absolutely love these books. I'm so looking forward to the next book. I would most definitely recommend this series to anyone who likes gritty mythological characters that are seeded in the true legends of these creatures.
Is there anything you would change about this book? Seth lost his morals he completely changed who he was he lost his sense of right and wrong which is kind of ironic seeing how he is now of the high court and should have more morals.
I would change seth and make him be who he actually is instead of some wimp obsessed with staying with his girl who doesn't react when he finds out that he was mislead by the high queen.
Would you be willing to try another book from Melissa Marr? Why or why not? I hope the next book is better. I didn't like the switch from the girl narrator to nick for the second but overall nick isnt bad but I liked the girl better. Yes, and I have. I miss the female narrator from the first story. About the same. At least I sort of cared about Seth. I keep saying this: pronunciations. So if you are like me and read those books ages ago, read it again before starting Fragile Eternity. Or you will be lost.
Case in point, me. I had trouble beginning the book because I forgot some of the events that happened in those prior books which forced me to be completely and utterly lost. It took about pages in that until I got comfortable again.
Give me another hundred pages and the plot begins to pick up. That is right. More than halfway through the book, page or so, did the actual storyline make any sense. It was a grueling pace from the start. Excessive descriptions, unneeded dialogues, and bouts of what did I just read? I can basically sum up the entire first half in a few sentences. In fact for a hefty read like this, around pages, the entire series moved 3 steps forward and 2 steps back.
Is anyone else not overly obsessed over the characters like me? Keenan is just a shy of being a man whore excuse my French for mejust a bit more loving before I stick a label on his forehead. Seth was kind of there. I just see no appeal to him compared to others who fawn over his hard rock appearance and multiple piercings. I mean really though!? I get that he has a lip piercing, but can you please stop mentioning it every other page!
For me the real star was Niall. He was the mighty stone who made sense! He who does not whine and complain ever few pages shines like a thousand stars! So that was the bad parts of Fragile Eternity. The good news was that the book definitely had the drama aspect down pat. The relationships between every character had its ups and downs, its hugs and kisses to pain and anguish.
I found the brotherhood between Seth and Niall refreshing. There were no love quarrels and no dramatic scenes of I love you! Simple gestures that make me smile.
There were also bits of surprises mainly involving Seth and Sorcha which never would I have imagined! And also a very cute cameo from the cover, the iron flowers of Wicked Lovely in the book. I mean screamed! Overall: Fragile Eternity definitely could have done better. Too much fluff and not enough of an actual plotline happening.
Mortal or Faery. July 01, This goes from the views of Scorcha, Aislinn, Seth, and Donia. Seth sees that Aislinn is growing closer to Keenan and he can't do anything to stop it. Aislinn loves Seth but she still feels the pull and longing with her Summer King. Donia loves Keenan but shes the only one making commitments while Keenan does anything in his power for his Queens attention and love.
All of the faery courts are making new alliances and new enemies. Will Seth find a way to be with Aislinn for eternity and will Donia be able to keep the Summer Kings love? This book was great. I personally have been waiting for the sequel to Wicked Lovely which I loved. You really see a different side of all the characters. Keenans complete lack of feeling for anyone else besides himself and his faeries. Donia starts to see reason where Keenan is concerened.
Niall is a little more dark since he became the Dark King and he makes an unlikely alliance with some. I felt a little sad for Seth that Aislinn wasn't more trust worthy.
I'm guessing there will be another book because the end leaves a lot of details open. I hope we see more action and someone do something to Keenan. It was a good book all in all if you liked Wicked Lovely.
Great sequel. June 28, Reader reviewed by Kris Melissa Marrs Fragile Eternity is the third or second, depending on how you look at Ink Exchange in a series about faeries that started with Wicked Lovely.
Torn between the two, who will Ash choose? Reader reviewed by fayeflame synopsis Seth never expected he would want to settle down with anyonebut that was before Aislinn. Aislinn never expected to rule the very creatures who'd always terrified herbut that was before Keenan. I have to say this was not my favorite book in the series. I was so lost, Seth and Ash, Ash and Keenan it just never ended.
Keenan and Ash's "love" is weakening the Summer Court and when Ash had to choose between them she couldn't, but she always love Seth, why does she have to think about it, she only loves Keenan as a friend. Keenan and Ash try to make it work.
Keenan and the Winter Queen can't work. Aislinn finally accepts the fact that Seth is gone for good, seeing as he has been missing for nearly five months, and decides to start trying to seduce Keenan. Aislinn wants to have sex with Keenan straight off because it would stop the hurting inside of her, but Keenan says that he will only get into bed with her when she really loves him. Seth's month in Faerie is finally over and Sorcha tells him that he is her creation and therefore her son, and that Seth has the same amount of voice as her brother, Devlin, in court decisions.
She also adds that he is welcome in Faerie any time should he want to visit. She also says that she will be checking on him sometimes. So with heavy hearts, they part, and Seth goes to face Aislinn. When first seeing Seth, both Aislinn and Keenan are surprised at Seth's return, and that he is now a powerful faery with strong ties and influence in Sorcha's court.
Keenan runs to Donia's house to beg for her forgiveness and asks her what he should do, but she only says, "Hope that some of us are kinder to you than you've been to us"[1]. Seth asks Aislinn what has happened while he was in Faerie. He finds out that she was dating Keenan, and blames her for not having faith in their relationship.
In the end, they get back together saying that they will figure things out. Seth also asks Niall if he could train with Gabriel 's Hounds so he can learn how to fight and hunt, mainly to hunt down Bananach.
Niall agrees and tells Seth that the change suits him. The novel ends with: "It did. Seth had a purpose now. And a chance at eternity with Ash. How can the romantic in me NOT like that. I also liked that this choice will come with consequences and curses that will probably set what is to come.
And because it gives him a new direction in life. Yes, Seth as a mortal who had everything: money, peace of mind and love, lacked direction. The choice he made comes with attached Terms and Conditions, yes. But also makes him something else , something new and someone who matters. He was lost as a mortal, he has found his way now and in a way , one can even see how he was supposed to, from the start: it makes sense and it fits his character arc.
We can almost say that Seth was meant to be like this. Plus, dear lord, the man is kick-ass now. He is, has always been since book 1, my favorite character, especially now. As for Ash, boy, is the girl in dire straights.
Becoming the Summer Queen at such tender age and having to deal with manipulative faeries who are hundreds of years old and very used to their way of living is not easy.
Then, the only person that she sees as her friend, fails her or so she thinks , what is one to do? At times, Ash comes across as too indecisive and too trusting but these are all hang-ups from her mortality and utterly understandable. She has a lot of growing up to do still — and a lot of important choices to make. Should I go on?
Because I can. It is a tragic story, theirs. But will a lot of potential still. The Court that has less contact with the mortal world and at first glance the one that has less impact in it. She is the Unchangeable One — the one that has always been the High Queen and will always be. Lastly, Keenan, the Summer King needs to be mentioned. I detest the guy with the strength of a million supernovas.
The guy is the only one without a moral compass — none whatsoever. Every single character in this book has a moral compass of sorts. Niall does as well. Ash is holding back her Faery side to keep some of her mortality. Donia is holding back her utter coldness. He totally embraces who he is — good and bad.
Part of me thinks, well, this is awesome. But I kind of understand where he is coming from — out of all the characters, he is the only one to have been born a monarch. He was bound and cursed for hundreds of years by his mother and now that he is finally free, the idea of limits, of holding back must be terrifying to him.
Sometimes I see him as a spoiled, arrogant little boy that needs to grow up, even though he is years old. Still, all of his arrogance will surely be his downfall.
Still, the Dark Ana would very much like to see what would happen if all of them stopped holding back: what would be like to see the Dark King, the Summer Monarchs and The Winter Queen in all their glory? I suspect, terrifying and utterly cool. And, when Ash becomes faery as the Summer Queen, Seth loyally stands beside her, never pushing or demanding anything, simply understanding that she has to be with her King and partner.
In other words, Seth finally became real to me as a character in this book, much more so than he was in Wicked Lovely. Seth loves Ash and will do anything for her, will take whatever time he can with her. But I disagree that he pegs his self worth on Aislinn, or that he is obsessed with her.
What separates Seth from the Bellas of the world and what endears him to me so much as a character is the fact that he makes a decision.
