Although many of his fans and even his girlfriend Wonder Girl believed he would return from the grave just like Superman once did, a whole year passed, and he remained dead. But in the 31st century, the Legion of Super-Heroes, who counted Superboy as an inspiration, along with his friend Impulse, were able to revive him in the future. He then travelled back in time to the present, resuming his career as Superboy. The newly returned Superboy went to live on the Kent farm, helping Ma Kent fill the hole in her life after the recent passing of her husband Jonathan.
He also resumed his membership with the Teen Titans, and rekindled his romance with Wonder Girl. This Superboy was still a half-human half-Kryptonian clone, a creation of a shadowy organization called N. Despite his conditioning as a weapon, he chose to be a Super-Hero instead, and joined the Teen Titans. When he met Supergirl, he learned of his Kryptonian heritage, but when she discovered he was actually a clone, she gave him the name Kon-El, which translated to "an abomination in the House of El" in Kryptonian.
Kon-El was revealed to have been created by Harvest, the founder of N. At one point, Superboy is thought to be dead, and the future Jon Lane Kent replaced him in the present timeline. When the 5th Dimensional Imp Mister Mxyzptlk staged a prolonged physical and emotional attack on Superman, the battle resulted in Superman's timeline changing.
When he first appeared in Metropolis after the death of the original Superman, Superboy's superpower were all attributed to something called "tactile telekinesis", which was essentially a telekinetic force field that wrapped around his body as a protective shield.
This allowed him to mimic Superman's strength, speed, flight, and invulnerability. The field also allowed Superboy to push his TK field, creating a forceful blast. He could also make any adversary he was fighting immobile by extending the telekinetic field, as long as they were both standing on the same ground.
Although he originally did not have Superman's heat vision, he could simulate it with a visor given to him by Dr. Emil Hamilton. After several years operating as a Super Hero on Earth, the Kryptonian part of his DNA absorbed enough yellow sun energy to finally exhibit the same powers of Superman and Supergirl.
Just like them, he now had super strength, invulnerability, flight, super hearing, X-ray vision, telescopic vision, microscopic vision, heat vision, super speed, super hearing, and super breath. But just like his real Kryptonian "cousins," he was also now vulnerable to Kryptonite, as well as other weaknesses shared by them, like magic and being under a red sun. Because of the human part of his DNA however, it is unlikely that Superboy will ever be quite as powerful as Superman or Supergirl.
Additionally, he exhibited a genius-level intellect. In his first ever appearance, the young clone of Superman, who was then without a true name, demanded that he not be called Superboy, believing himself to have already earned the title Superman. This despite being physically a teenager, and quite literally just days old youthful arrogance? The '90s version of Superboy was introduced in this issue which also saw the first appearances of the Cyborg Superman, Steel, and the Eradicator.
Superboy and company decide to stay in Honolulu for some time as he becomes its resident Super-Hero. When petulant teenager uses a magic spell that causes all of the adults on Earth to disappear, including the Justice League, the super-powered teens of the DC universe have to team up and save the day.
In this mini-series, Superboy forms a true bond with the Tim Drake version of Robin, along with Impulse, which all eventually leads to their forming the team Young Justice, and also all becoming best friends for life. Young Justice disbanded after some time, but the young heroes' time apart from one another would not be for long, as the core members of the team became a new version of the Teen Titans.
However, another alternate future is shown where Tim decides he will take the mantle of Batman from Bruce Wayne by force and joins forces with Lex Luthor and Miss Martian. Seen behind the group are clones of Conner Kent and Bart Allen as well as an unknown female.
At first, Superboy's only superpower is "tactile telekinesis", a telekinetic force field that surrounds his body as a protective shield and allows him strength, flight and invulnerability.
Tactile telekinesis also allows Superboy to disassemble machines and other complex constructions by pushing the field between the individual parts; alternately, he can, for short periods of time, hold such constructs together if they are coming apart. He can also manipulate aggregate solid masses such as volumes of sand or dust in the same way, causing the individual particles to fly apart in an explosive manner to create particle clouds or a forceful attack; he can also perform the same stunt with solid masses that are splintered, such as a cracked slab of concrete or fractured pane of glass.
The tactile TK field also lets Superboy break free of an opponent's grip by pushing the field outward to force the opponent away. Other creative uses include rendering an opponent immobile by extending the TK field as long as they are both standing on the same ground; a variation on this is to extend the protection of his field to another person by touching them.
The main disadvantage of tactile telekinesis is that it is less effective in blocking energy including fire and the resulting heat than it is against solids, leaving Superboy slightly more susceptible to energy-based attacks. It is also less effective against gaseous materials and liquids. However, near the end of his series he was able to create an air pocket around himself enabling him to breathe in outer space.
With only Tactile Telekinesis as his powers, at first, Superboy was only able to fly up to the speed of mph or so. Although it has been shown that Superboy can fly up to speeds approaching mach 3. He even displayed the ability to launch objects at high velocities in excess of mach 5. He was equiped with goggles that gave him heat and X-ray vision but was destroyed short. Before his Kryptonian powers manifested; Kon-El couldn't run or move at superhuman speeds like Superman could; with only Tacile Telekinesis as his power.
Kon-El finds out new ways to use his Tactile Telekinesis. Another plus to Superboy's Tactile Telekinesis is that he needs very little, or no yellow sunlight to power it.
In The Final Night storyline; Earth's sun was being eaten by a Sun-Eater which severely weakened Superman but Superboy's power level remained the same. As his Kryptonian physiology matures, Superboy gains superpowers that don't derive from tactile telekinesis, including heat vision, x-ray vision, and super-hearing. When the Titans encountered their future selves, he found he has greater telekinetic abilities no longer limited to tactile telekinesis , he is stronger, more durable, and faster.
Superboy later states that he has developed telescopic vision. It has also been shown in Teen Titans that he is much faster, traveling from San Francisco to the Arctic in less than an hour whilst carrying Nightwing. He was later able to have a footrace around the world with Kid Flash.
Superboy, like Superman, derives his Kryptonian powers from the absorption of solar energy from the Earth's yellow sun. Conner, however, does not process solar energy as quickly as Superman. This included simulating strength, flight, hearing and invulnerability. He could project powerful telekinetic force blasts from his hands but perhaps his most impressive power was his tactile telekinesis disassemble power. Through concentration, he could cause an object to disassemble and fly apart.
Jon also has begun displaying powers that neither Conner nor his father possess. Jon has the ability to levitate someone next to him by projecting a field when flying. Jon has an accelerated healing factor. He has a heightened sense of smell and has projected his voice so loudly that it shattered windows. As both father and father figure, Superman has provided not only someone to look up to but someone to talk to about the struggles of living with that much raw power at your fingertips.
Supergirl has a great friendship with Conner and considers him to be her cousin, while to Jon, she is his beloved Aunt Kara. Both Superboys have a Robin in their lives and each have a terrified but respectful friendship with The Batman. Both boys will also be affiliated with the Legion of Super-Heroes.
The Legion recently arrived in to invite the newly teenaged Jon to join the team. Luthor took control of Conner several times for his own plans and while Luthor regarded Conner as a son, Luthor was a lousy father. The manipulative staff at Cadmus and the villainous Superboy-Prime also top the list. Soon after, Jon is captured by Mr. Mxyzptlk and ends up rewriting his own history. He is also an independent comic book writer and illustrator, he has illustrated one children's book for a former student and has recently written his own children's book titled "Blue".
