Linda Cardellini, who plays Laura Barton, is conspicuously absent from the new Hawkeye trailer, which shows Clint Barton and his family trying to move on after The Blip and various other issues. They are living in New York City, rather than their previous home in the country, and enjoy everything the city has to offer. Apparently that includes a new musical about Steve Rogers, which many fans are certainly keen to know more about.
However, as Barton talks about "making up for lost time" with his family, he is only embracing his three children rather than his wife. Further confusion comes when he speaks to someone on the phone while away on a mission, referring to them as "babe," which suggests his wife is still on the scene.
In the comics, Hawkeye's wife Laura does appear, and her death causes Clint to become an edgier vigilante than before. Usually it's if somebody knows that it's me and they tell their kid. When it first came out, I could stand next to the poster, and nobody would know that it was me in the poster, which I found entertaining. She might not be one of the Brokeback Mountain cast members who comes to mind first, considering her role was relatively small and Hollywood proceeded to heap an enormous amount of praise on the movie's leads, but you've probably not forgotten Cardellini's scenes in the film.

In fact, given the apparent correlations between the latest Marvel show and other iconic Christmas movies, Cardellini's character may even serve as a surprise Easter egg. One explanation is that Hawkeye's change in character, becoming the brutal vigilante Ronin , dramatically affected his relationship with his wife, even after her eventual return. It's clear from the new trailer that Hawkeye's past continues to haunt him. Given that his children appear before being ushered away offscreen, it may well be that both Laura and Clint are taking some time apart as he struggles to come to terms with his actions after Thanos' snap.
Although trouble in Clint and Laura's relationship would be surprising, given her willingness to stick by him throughout the MCU, it would serve as a clever way to connect Hawkeye with another iconic Christmas action movie: specifically, Die Hard.
