Why does he copy my actions

Acting just like you is a giant step toward learning all about himself. With his curly brown hair and sunny smile, my son resembled his dad from the moment he was born. But it wasn't until Judah was 14 months old that I truly started to think I was seeing double. My husband, Larry, had just come in from a run and was stretching in our entryway.

In a flash, Judah was by his side, copying his father's every move: touching his toes, stretching toward the ceiling, even pushing against the wall with his scrawny toddler arms. Larry and I cracked up, but our little boy took his workout seriously. From that point, Judah became a master imitator. Whenever I talked on the phone, he'd converse beside me. When Larry, watching the Giants on TV, pumped his arm in the air to cheer a touchdown, Judah would mimic his football frenzy. Sometimes we'd grab the camcorder to preserve Judah's charming parodies, but imitation for toddlers is much more than a show.

By copying adults during this crucial year of growth, 1-year-olds learn a vast array of skills. Of course, not all children jump in and mimic their parents' every move. Kessler, M. Joseph's Hospital, in Phoenix.

Often little boys copy their fathers, and little girls model their mothers. But many parents see their sons trying on Mom's lipstick or their daughters "shaving" with Daddy. Nalven says. But age 1 marks the beginning of true imitation, or imitation with intent. What's more, by 15 months, most toddlers have developed the motor and cognitive skills necessary to carry out the action to be imitated.

Children this age are usually mobile and have some hand-eye coordination. What drives toddler imitation? In part, it's the instant connection that mimicry creates between parent and child. If this is why he mirrors you then it would be more likely that he would do it subconsciously rather than doing it on purpose consciously. It would be more likely that he copies you due to being attracted to you if he only seems to do it with you and if his body language is different around you compared to when he is with other people.

If he is attracted to you then it would be likely that he would show signs of attraction, in his body language, when he is around you. He might show more signs of attraction around you and I have written about more of them in this blog post.

If that is why he does it then it would be more likely that he would do it subconsciously. This is because mirroring the body language of the people around us will increase the chances of getting accepted by the group.

It would also be more likely if he also copies the body language of other people, in your friendship group, in a similar way. If he does seem to be copying other people, as well, then it could still be the case that he is attracted to you.

If he is then it would be more likely that he would show signs of attraction when he is around you. This would be more likely if he only copied you in one unintentional way such as if he said something like you normally would or he made one similar gesture. Whereas, if he copied your body language in multiple different ways then it would be less likely that he does it, himself, naturally.

This would be more likely if he did it in an overt way that was not subconscious. Such as if he imitated something that you normally say. If he copied your body language by standing with a similar stance as you or he used similar words as you subconsciously then it would be less likely that he was teasing you.

If he was teasing you then it would also be a sign that he likes you and it would help to consider the other body language signs that he was showing. If he was showing some signs of attraction then it would make it a lot more likely that he was showing attraction to you. Also notice if he looks at you after he makes a joke or does something funny.

Another strong tell is if he finds ways to touch you. You may notice he seems a little flustered or maybe even blushes a bit when you talk to him. Pay attention to the way he is with his friends and other people to get a baseline for how he usually acts. Compliments are his way of telling you he notices you and wants to make you feel good. I would definitely recommend this book to any women who may be having issues within a relationship or with the men in their life in general.
